フィンランドに来てから約半年が過ぎようとしている。
「◯＃％＄＠％＄＊」というフィンランド語の音の中で生活する毎日は、刺激的で楽しく、不安でもあり、そして不思議でもある。
映画Lost in Translationで主人公が経験した気分を思い出す。自分の周りの世界がまるでそれ自身の意思を持っているように過ぎていき、その意思をまったく理解できない自分はまるで異次元に存在する生物（いきもの）のような気分で、周りとの別時間をただ淡々と過ごしている。自分が異国にいるという独特な気分だ。
「取り残される」ことの違和感、不安感、そして心地よさをこの映画はとてもよく表現できていると思う。
It has been 6 months since we moved to Finland.
"O#%$@%$*"---- This is what surrounds us every day in Finland - at the store, on a tram, and on TV. The incomprehensible sound of a foreign language brings us joy, anxiety and mystery.
The movie Lost in Translation described the exact feeling very well. The main character experienced that the world around him simply moves forward without him, and his life continues on a completely separate scheme from the rest of the world - as if he is a creature from a different world while he spent his time in Japan surrounded by obscure objects and reactions.
Being left behind from the rest of the world gives us the sense of "off-ness", insecurity, and comfort at the same time. The feeling of one's lost-ness is portrayed very well in the movie Lost in Translation.

それでも、フィンランドでは幸い英語が８０パーセントの割合で通じる。もし生活で困ったことがあればすぐに助けを請えるという点は、子供のいる親にとって最高の安心剤である。
英語の他に、８月から受講している初級フィンランド語講座のお陰で少しずつだけれど、周りで話されている会話やテレビで放送されている単語をちょっとずつ拾えるようになってきた。そうすると、自分の中の「取り残され」感というのがぐっと減少するのが不思議だ。
Yet, I had been having 80% success of communicating in English with the Finns. For example if I need immediate help, I can communicate well enough to get it right away - this feeling makes me at ease especially taking care of young children in a foreign country.
Other than communication in English, I start to be able to recognize a couple of words in people's conversation on a tram, or a TV program, for example. It is solely due to the basic Finnish language course I have been enrolled in since August. It is funny that the feeling of "off-ness" starts to quickly disappear once you start to be able to guess what the rest of the world is talking about.
初級フィンランド語講座 - Basic Finnish Language course
渡フィン前にたまたま見つけたフィンランド語講座。「小さな子供連れでも一緒に通いフィンランド語が勉強できる」といううたい文句に惹かれフィンランド滞在中の１年間はこの活動に専念しようと決めたのだった。
どうやら育児所がフィンランド語の学校についているらしい。
フィンランド語のいろはもわからない人向けの授業らしい。
この２つの前知識だけで飛び込んで行った私は、今考えれば無謀だったかもしれない。
それでもこの経験を通してフィンランドについていろいろ学ぶきっかけになったというのは嬉しい誤算だった。
I accidentally found out about this course online before moving to Finland. The course description said that I can take little children to study Finnish. I made up my mind to enroll in this course and it will be my fun activity during my 1-year-stay in Finland.
Related to the course, there seems to be a daycare attached to the school.
The course seems very basic, for people who have zero knowledge about the Finnish language.
It might have been reckless to decide to take a course in Finnish with only these 2 pieces of information.
However, I would have never imagined this class would be such an inspiration and my future career just by learning about different views of the world through communicating with the instructors and with other peers in the class.

このコースは８月から５月までの９ヶ月間、フィンランド語が全くわからない移民ママのために開かれる。子供の年齢が１０ヶ月以上、３歳未満の家庭のみ。
おそらく移民パパも参加可能だけれど、私たちのクラスは全員が子供のいる既婚女性だ。年齢は２０代前半から３０代前半。
出身国は様々で主にアフリカ、または中東の国々が多い。代表的なもので、ソマリア、アフガニスタン、エチオピア、ナイジェリア、シリアなどである。
このコースの目的は、フィンランドに移住してきた外国人を少しでもサポートすること。
移民の一人一人が自立し、一人前の生活をするためには、国の要である言語と文化を教える必要がある。
フィンランド語の初級クラスを無料で、しかも保育所付きで、見ず知らずの外国人のために開講する、というのだ。社会にとけ込み、文化にとけ込み、少しでも暮らしやすく、将来働きやすくする環境づくりのために。
なんという寛大さ。なんという心遣い。
そこには、国を以て移民の生活を全力サポートするという姿勢が、「本気」の意気込みが、ある。
My language course started in August, and lasts for 9 months until May. The course is for mothers with young children who immigrated to Finland within 3 years. The children has to be age 10 months old to 3 years old.
Perhaps, fathers can also join the course, but my class only has women. They are all married and their age is between early 20's and 30's.
They are mostly from African and middle Eastern countries. For example, some people are from Somalia, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Syria.

The purpose of the course is to help and support immigrated families.
It is critical for immigrants to learn the language and culture of Finland in order to become independent, and eventually work and support the country just like the citizens in Finland. Therefore, the Finns provide equal opportunity for quality education - just like they do for their own citizens.
The country of Finland provides a Finnish language course for strangers who immigrated to Finland. For free, and with daycare support for mothers with children.
How generous! How considerate!
Thus, one can feel the full commitment of the country's immigration policy.
The tuition is free. Textbook, pencils, erasers, and a binder for handouts in class are provided - free of charge. Transportation is free (see note 1). The cost is covered by taxes collected from the Finnish people (and they pay a LOT of tax.)
Is this possible in Japan? Could Japanese people be this generous?
If we are not ready to accept and support immigrants as one of the Japanese citizens, it is best to keep our current standing position.

日本人が移民受け入れに対し「冗談でしょう？」ととっさに思ってしまうような国家的な風潮があるうちは、言い換えれば、どんな国のどんな人でも日本国民として受け入れる覚悟が国民一人一人に根付かない限りは、移民受け入れ政策は時期尚早と言うほかはない。
I will have to say it is too early to introduce the immigration policy to Japan as long as Japanese people are committed to accept immigrants as "one of them" with equal rights = Japanese citizens.
